Connecting Communities Across The Americas
The Quaker testimony of Community asks us to see one another as neighbors across borders, not as strangers divided by nationality or politics. In the Americas—with our shared histories, migration flows, and deep economic ties—building and sustaining community across national boundaries is especially vital.
In turbulent times, connections based on recognizing each other’s dignity and acting together where conscience leads can counter isolation and scapegoating and support those most at risk.
When grounded in the Spirit, community across the Americas becomes both a practical support and a witness to a different way of relating—one that honors that of God in each of us regardless of nationality or legal status. At our plenary we will hear from several Friends about work they are doing to connect us. And have an opportunity to explore whether our own sense of community calls us to connect across borders.

Plenary Speaker Sarah Junkin Woodard is traveling to share the work of the Jubilee House Community, a nonprofit working for the last 32 years in Nicaragua, with the project name of the Center for Development in Central America. The JHC-CDCA`s goal has always been to help the poor accomplish what they see as their priorities, which has led to work particularly in the areas of sustainable economic development, organic agriculture, health care, and education. Now, in 2026, with the world in chaos, Sarah`s U.S. tour is focusing on educating those in the global north on the amazing realities developing within Nicaragua where both the social and political will are aimed at helping the majority of the population, the poorest of the poor.
